SUMMARY:Champagne Weather
DESCRIPTION:Canadian Folk Music Award-winners and JUNO nominees James Hill and Anne Janelle. Both have one foot in folk traditions and the other in improvised music. With a blend of songwriting and sound sculpture\, Champagne Weather artfully bridges these worlds with a sound that evokes Philip Glass and Steve Reich even as it harks back to Appalachian fiddle and Maritime folksong. \nIn each Champagne Weather composition\, two motifs repeat\, entwine and slowly change\, creating serendipitous harmony that no-one can predict—not even the musicians. Cello\, ukulele and violin sparkle like a field of stars\, grounded only by the rumble of low-fi synth. It’s ever-changing music that neither sleeps nor wakes\, floating instead in a dreamy blue twilight of sound. \nThe duo’s lyrics paint impressions of modern life and the characters who call it home: the widower\, the lost child\, the busy people. Every song is a diorama\, a shoebox-world with \na peep-hole \n        just wide enough \n                     to fall \n                             through.

SUMMARY:Rankin Macinnis
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission concert series \nMusic Nova Scotia’s Entertainer of the Year comes with a big band and a big sound. Known for their eclectic\, high-energy shows\, Rankin and the Broken Reeds bring together the region’s top musical talent for a live-music experience unlike anything you’ve seen before — one that feels like it spans time and genres\, from traditional folk to future pop\, fueled by a lot of groove and finished with a bit of grit. Together\, the band has built an award-winning music festival (Blueberry Jam)\, a first-of-its-kind concert series (Rankin’s Winter Warmers)\, and a community of creative collaborators who are up for anything — and fans who can’t wait to see what’s next. And what’s next is the band’s highly anticipated debut full-length studio album\, coming in 2024 – Rankin’s first since House Party with Party Boots in 2019.
