SUMMARY:Bill Stevenson and Guest
DESCRIPTION:Bill Stevenson  is a Canadian blues and jazz pianist\, vocalist and songwriter\, originally associated with the band Earth Opera\, whose career in music has spanned over forty years. \nStevenson commenced his music career in Ottawa\, Ontario\, where he spent his childhood and adolescence. While still in his teens\, he joined the band Earth Opera\, originally based in Boston. Stevenson left the band in 1968\, after the release of their first album. One of his associations was as an early member of Heaven’s Radio\, considered to be one of the best bands to come out of Ottawa in the 1970s. As of the mid-1970s\, Stevenson relocated to Halifax\, Nova Scotia\, from which his career has been based since. During his career\, Stevenson has worked with many notable artists\, including John Lee Hooker\, Amos Garrett and Tom Rush. \nStevenson is the 2008 winner of the East Coast Music Award for Jazz Album of The Year.  With Tom Easley and Geoff Arsenault\, he is also a 2009 East Coast Music Award nominee for Blues Album of The Year.

SUMMARY:Mike McKenna Jr. w/ Khozie
DESCRIPTION:Canadian singer songwriter Mike McKenna Jr. is an award-winning artist from Cape Breton Island; with a raspy\, soulful voice\, warm indie\, folk\, and Americana tones\, and powerful songs\, laden with captivating storytelling. Born in the proud coal mining town of Glace Bay and raised along the Myra River\, Mike’s songwriting aesthetic points heavily to his roots growing up industrial East Cape Breton. \nOver the course of four award winning albums\, including his newest release Smoky Mountain High\, he’s brought us the nostalgia of his home\, through carefully chosen narrative\, poetry\, protest\, and true stories about life and death in Nova Scotia’s coastal\, working-class communities. \nKhozie is a Cape Breton-born singer-songwriter whose work bridges the raw beauty of Atlantic Canada with the storytelling heart of Nashville\, Tennessee\, where he’s actively building a dynamic songwriting career. Drawing from East Coast folklore\, rugged coastlines\, and deeply personal experiences\, his music blends folk\, indie pop\, and coastal soul into something both timeless and fresh.\n\nAs a collaborator and writer\, Khozie has worked with a range of talented artists\, and the songs he’s written have collectively garnered millions of streams worldwide. He brings a grounded authenticity to every stage and studio he steps into — carrying the spirit of Cape Breton with him wherever he goes.

SUMMARY:John Chiasson & Friends
DESCRIPTION:John Chaisson grew up in Antigonish\, and studied jazz at St. Francis Xavier University\, long before the singing jazz upright bass player Esperanza Spaulding came to prominence. Fans of John’s smooth baritone-plus-bass already had her Nova Scotia counterpoint. \nJohn has put true\, low notes behind PEI legend Lenny Gallant\, the stratospheric pipes of The Rankins\, and beneath the fretless lilt of Natalie McMaster’s fiddle. For Natalie\, John has been a music director\, that is to say\, her band-leader and arranger\, the person who runs rehearsals. \nNow based in Halifax\, John’s trio plays for special events and regularly at Baton Rouge and many other venues across Nova Scotia; John and trio also provided expert framing for young phenoms like saxophonist Rob Crowell. \nJohn admits that inspiration is a deep well – for him it starts with music in the house\, played and encouraged by his parents\, then with the arrival of a lead-singing bass player\, Paul McCartney. John also mentions McCartney’s apparent opposite in ’60s music – the iconoclast composer\, singer and bassist Charles Mingus\, himself known for heart-rending chord changes\, like those in Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. \nJohn’s signature instrument is an unusual solid-body upright bass\, nothing McCartney or Mingus could have had\, in the day. This bass sounds sweet\, and repels the Maritimes’ dry and damp spells with warmth.
