SUMMARY:Manderville & special guests
DESCRIPTION:Introducing Manderville\, a 7 piece folk band based in Halifax that combines fiddle\, banjo\, guitar\, drums\, and vocal melodies that’ll make you want to dance\, sing\, and stomp your feet. All songs are derived from the mind of leading man Quinn LeBlanc\, a singer songwriter originally from New Brunswick. Each of the bands members – Quinn LeBlanc (vocal\, guitar)\, Felix Slander (electric guitar)\, Seamus Johnson (tenor guitar\, banjo)\, Phil White (bass)\, Oscar Moyles (fiddle)\, Michael Ciccia (drums)\, and The Carleton’s own Imogen Ash (vocal) come from all around Atlantic Canada and have individually been a part of the local music scene for the last few years. The band draws musical inspiration from folk artists both big and small\, from Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt to Jackson C. Frank. Manderville came on the scene in late October of this year and since then they have played multiple shows at Gus’ Pub\, the T-Room\, Cempoal Cafe and the Agricola Open Street Market\, their swift rise within the local music landscape has shown they’re a promising new act you surely won’t want to miss. \nBezalel is a man with a band\, who aims to please with his folk\, rock\, and emo-tinged tunes. Flanked by Jasper Goldie (fiddle\, bass)\, Seamus Johnson (tenor guitar\, banjo)\, Kiana Bari (vocals)\, and a mystery drummer\, frontman Meir Straus has written music intended to make you cry and sing along. Taking inspiration from such artists and bands as Sufjan Stevens\, the Weakerthans\, Andy Shauf\, MJ Lenderman and more\, Bezalel has made a home of Halifax\, crooning in such rooms as the Trident Cafe\, Gus’ Pub\, and more. You can find Bezalel’s only single thusfar\, “Happy Leap Day\,” on the streaming platform of your choice. Or\, better\, you can come see him in person– bring a friend.” \nTickets $11.40

SUMMARY:Rankin's Winter Warmers
DESCRIPTION:Winter is long\, but it doesn’t have to feel that way…  \nRankin MacInnis is a Maritime musician with a unique kind of show. \nSaturday afternoons in Halifax have become synonymous with “Rankin’s Winter Warmers” at The Marquee. \n\nFrom January to March\, MacInnis makes the trip from Mabou\, Cape Breton\, to Halifax to host what has become one the most popular events in the city. \n“Speaking of Cape Breton\, the concept\, I think\, kind of developed in the way I would have been developed in Mabou\, with kitchen parties and the sharing of music\,” he says. \nMacInnis always wears a hockey jersey during his performances and does everything from singing to playing the bagpipes. \nHe not only takes the stage with his eight-piece band\, but is joined each week by special guests. \n“Jimmy Rankin has been on the stage\, Carmen Townsand\, (The) Town Heroes\,” MacInnis says. \nThe shows welcome people of all ages. \n“The older we get\, the more perfect it is\,” jokes MacInnis. \n“Rankin’s Winter Warmers” has become so popular it won best event at the 2023 Music Nova Scotia Awards and MacInnis took home the prize for Entertainer of the Year as well. \n“It was a big moment\,” he says. \nFor those who haven’t experienced the concert series yet\, MacInnis says there is still time\, with three weeks and four shows left. \nMacInnis adds the shows are “for everyone.” \n“Mostly upbeat\, all fun music\, but we do our best to celebrate all genres\,” he says. “So even if you only like a certain amount\, it’s like the same as like the weather in Scotland\, just wait five minutes and you’ll get something different.” — CTV \nTickets $28.50

DESCRIPTION:Pianist Mathieu Gaudet and violinist Mark Fewer come together for a captivating program that spans two centuries of musical brilliance. SUMMARY:Ty Messick & Friends
DESCRIPTION:One of our most under-rated songwriters and performers\, Ty Messick\, with friends including Pictou County singing legend Virgil Muir\, will return to The Carleton for their first show of 2026 on Saturday\, January 24th. Show time is 8 PM and tickets are only $10 + HST. \nTheir sets will include Ty’s original music from his album releases as well as covering some wicked tunes. We’ll have standing room for this show\, so to secure a seat\, get there early! \nTy Messsick was born in Philadelphia\, P.A  in 1979\, soaked up a lifetime of Philly K-Rock and campus WXPN radio and then moved to St. Margaret’s Bay\, Nova Scotia\, at 13 years old. At 19\, Tyler encountered Joel Plaskett playing Down at the Khyber in Hell’s Kitchen and was given a roadmap to East Coast rock ‘n roll. Tyler is also known by his stage name\, Museum Pieces. \nHis original songwriting became public knowledge in 2003\, when his first album\, Grain Sales of 1840was nominated for an ECMA. He has since released 6 full length albums including: Philadelphia (2005)\, Plain Sight (2018) and Sun’s Gonna Rise (2023). \nHis sound is a mix of Rock and Traditional – and his recordings often draw comparisons to other Philadelphia-born bands Kurt Vile\, and War on Drugs. Messick spent many years collaborating with notable Island and Scotian acts such as Al Tuck\, Joel Plaskett\, Matt Mays\, Jill Barber\, Rose Cousins… and the list goes on. More recently Messick has toured with the Big Turnips artists roster\, and worked with Absolute Losers\, Two Hours Traffic\, and Gizmo – the new PEI pop rock bands. \n“Tyler’s songs make rain slow down a little bit and flowers blossom a little harder. Every song makes me sigh and high with relief. Hands down my favourite band.” Matt Mays \n“This band tends to have a way with melody that most people work so very hard to acquire.” – Chris Wibbs for Exclaim! Magazine \n“stately folk pop” – Magnet Magazine \n“Tyler Messick fills the number with boundless soul\, as if it’s the culmination of an epic\, troubled love story. There’s enough heart here to represent a young man’s whole lifetime\, the better and the worse\, and enough guitar\, too. He sounds as if he grew up with these chords\, just waiting for the chance. And he kills it.”  – Sean Michaels\, Said the Gramaphone From the Globe and Mail \nTyler Messick “Grain Sales of 1840 (expanded version) 2002 on Spotify \nMuseum Pieces “Philadelphia” album on Spotify \nMuseum Pieces “Plain Sight” on Spotify \nTyler Messick “Suns Gonna Rise” album 2023 \nTickets

SUMMARY:Garrett Mason
DESCRIPTION:Garrett Mason is a true bluesman at heart. He was raised in Truro\, Nova Scotia by his mother Pam\, and father\, veteran Canadian Bluesman Dutch Mason. His quest to become a blues musician started at a very early age; being surrounded by music blues music\, Garrett’s favorite tapes at 3 years old were Canned Heat and Buddy Rich. What really sealed the deal for Garrett to become a blues guitarist came after watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn “Live At the El Mocambo” – he was hooked. \nHis dad\, Dutch Mason\, stopped playing guitar before Garrett was born due to crippling arthritis in his hands. Although he was not able to teach his son to play\, he has certainly been able to teach Garrett the structure of the Blues and to influence him about the resulting sound. Surrounded by his father’s peers\, Garrett has had the benefit of hearing and learning from a wide variety of musical talent. The late Rick Jeffery was a great inspiration to Garrett; they would talk and play for hours together. Rick once said “Garrett is the only guitar player I know that can play Albert Collins’ style down to a T”. The combination of his father’s advice\, Jeffery’s guidance and his own natural talents provide that special brew for Garrett to become the musical influence he is destined to be. \nGarrett would be the first to tell you that riding the coat tails of others won’t take you very far in this business\, but striving to be truly original is the secret to longevity and lasting success. Garrett launched his debut CD I’m Just a Man at the 2004 Harvest Jazz and Blues festival in Fredericton\, New Brunswick to a sold out crowd. \nThis debut CD features Garrett’s talent for strong original songs\, a voice that is reminiscent of a veteran performer and his extraordinary aptitude for playing electric guitar. Garrett’s original talent was awarded in 2005 when he received a Juno for Best Blues Album. Garrett Mason is poised to be one of the brightest stars to emerge from the East Coast Blues scene in years. \nGarrett’s band released their sophomore album Love and Sound in July 2008 which was nominated for a Juno Award. The album won Blues Artist/Group Recording of the Year at the 2009 Music Nova Scotia and Industry Awards.
