Hamish Gordon is our concert soloist on oboe as Nova Sinfonia presents a lively program of Vivaldi, Mozart, Kodaly and Haydn.

Hamish is a highly respected local musician with unmatched expressive interpretation. Don’t miss this chance to hear him play this gorgeous Vivaldi concerto!

Hamish Gordon began playing the oboe at the tender age of 14 in Ottawa ON, and now, just a few short years later, he is still playing the oboe.

He studied at the University of Toronto, the Royal Conservatory’s Orchestral training program, and was a recipient of a Canada Council of the Arts award to study with the 1st Oboist of the NY Philharmonic.

Hamish held positions in Orchestre des jeunes du Quebec, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and Victoria and Saskatoon Symphony Orchestras. Hamish freelanced over many years, including with the National Arts Center Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, Montreal Symphony, and the Canadian Opera Co. He also toured Italy in the summers of 1985 and 1987 with the Puccini Festival Orchestra of Miami Beach.

Hamish was a member of the Vancouver Wind trio from 1987-1998, during which time the trio toured all of North America, from Alaska to Florida and all points between playing school shows and evening concerts.

In 2004 Hamish joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a musician, was posted to the Stadacona Band of the RCN in 2006, and retired in December 2024.

Shortly after moving to Halifax Hamish joined Nova Sinfonia as their principal oboist.
